John Fuson awarded the National Certificate of Merit
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
23 January 2010, Indianapolis
Today at approximately 11:20am during the Annual
Business Meeting of the Crossroads of America Council at Warren Central High School in Indianapolis,
John Cook of the Council convened a National Court of Honor, for the purpose of awarding a National
Certificate of Merit to Troop 397's very own John Fuson for his efforts last Winter in coming
to the aid of a classmate who had fallen under duress after debarking the school bus.
Cook retold the story of how Fuson saw to his friend, flagged down
an adult to dial 911, provided crucial information to EMTs, and stayed calm the entire time, demonstrating
many techniques he had learned from his work toward First Aid Merit Badge at Camp Dan Beard the Summer
before.
Cook then awarded Fuson the framed Certificate, who received it to standing applause from
all present, including his Family and Scoutmaster.
John Fuson joins Eagle Scout Jacob Glennon in receiving recognition from the
BSA National Council for their extraordinary acts, in which they embody the Scout Law,
especially the points of Helpful and Brave. They stand as examples to their
fellow Boy Scouts in Troop 397, and Boy Scouts everywhere.
The Leaders and Scouts of Troop 397 congratulates John in receiving this prestigious Award.
Congratulations to Luke Schepers - January 2010 Chess Tournament Champion!
About Troop 397
Boy Scout Troop 397 is made up of more than 20 boys and their families
from the Brownsburg/Avon area. Our program depends entirely on the planning and participation
of parents who make up the leadership of the troop and help support activities throughout the year.
Troop 397 meets once each week on Thursday evenings at
7pm. Our meetings are held at St. Malachy in Noll Hall or the Youth
Room, depending on availability. Please check our troop calendar for
details on additional outings and activities.
We welcome and encourage parents to participate in our troop's activities
during the year. All meetings, outings, and events are open to parents at any time.
The Troop is led by a committee of volunteer adults. Additional support
is provided by parents who volunteer their time to help with troop meetings, campouts and
other special events throughout the year.
Troop 397 is chartered through the
Boy Scouts of America and is part
of the Crossroads of America Council.
St. Malachy Catholic Church is our charter organization and sponsor of our troop to the BSA.
Outing Coordinator Wanted
Troop 397 is looking for your help as an Outing Coordinator. The Outing Coordinator would
help coordinate and prepare the Troop's monthly outing program. They would also work with
the Scouts to plan each event. If you would like to volunteer for this position, please
contact the Scoutmaster or the Committee Chairman.
Assistant Scoutmasters Wanted
Troop 397 needs your help as an Assistant Scoutmaster. Assistant
Scoutmasters help the Scoutmaster by planning outings, handling some administration,
and allowing the Scoutmaster to focus on planning and conducting Troop Meetings and
Activities. If you would like to become an Assistant Scoutmaster, please contact the
Scoutmaster or the Committee Chairman.
